Pikaar Picks His New Home with the Billikens
A semester long journey from the Netherlands to the United States will begin another chapter, this time at Saint Louis University for Sunrise Christian Academy Post Grad student Max Pikaar.
In a significant stride forward for his burgeoning basketball career, the 6'11" forward from the Netherlands has officially accepted a scholarship offer to join the Saint Louis University Billikens. This move caps off an impressive tenure with the Sunrise Christian Academy post-graduate team, where Pikaar distinguished himself as a formidable player with a unique ability to stretch the floor with his shooting.
Originally hailing from the Netherlands, Pikaar brought a European flair to his game, blending size with a sharpshooting prowess rarely seen in players of his stature. Over his time at Sunrise Christian Academy, Max developed a reputation not only for his scoring ability but also for his versatile defensive play and basketball IQ, making him a dual threat on both ends of the court.
At Saint Louis University, Pikaar is expected to significantly bolster the Billikens' lineup, bringing a much-needed perimeter shooting touch that can help space the floor and open up driving lanes for his teammates. His skill set aligns well with the modern basketball archetype of the "stretch player," someone who can compete inside the paint and also connect from beyond the arc.
His coaches at Sunrise Christian Academy have praised Max's work ethic and determination. Coach Popp noted, "I am extremely happy for Max and his family. He came here knowing he had to do certain things to get where he wanted. He has absolutely worked to earn this opportunity."
He continued, "I believe it's a great fit with Coach Schertz and in the A10. That staff recruited him extremely hard all year while they were at Indiana State. They showed a lot of commitment to him and have had success with perimeter bigs like Max. I believe in the young man and think people will see him do some great things there!"
For Max, the transition to collegiate basketball in the United States presents a thrilling new challenge and an opportunity to showcase his skills on a bigger stage. "Sunrise (Christian Academy) has provided me with a place where I could work on my game 24/7. Surrounded by invested coaches! From the day that I stepped foot on the Sunrise campus I felt welcomed and people provided me with everything needed to get to the next level."
